Your New Rubber Seal Looks Dirty? Don’t Worry – Here’s Why
We’ve had a few customers ask about a light white or gray film that sometimes appears on our heavy-duty black rubber bottom garage door seals. We wanted to clear this up so no one thinks they’re receiving a used or dirty product.
What You’re Seeing - Salt Residue
The light residue is salt left over from the manufacturing process. Rubber is a naturally tacky, high-friction material. During production the seals go through a salt cure line, then a rinse tank and cooling bath. Even with regular cleaning of the equipment, it’s nearly impossible to remove every trace of the salt. This has always been the case with this type of rubber seal and does not mean the product is used or defective.

A Look at the Manufacturing Process
Action Industries manufactures these heavy-duty EPDM rubber seals in the USA. Their production facility handles the full process — from extrusion through the salt-cure line — before the seals are finished and shipped.

Does It Affect Performance?
No. The residue does not hurt the seal’s flexibility, weather sealing ability, or lifespan. These are the same heavy-duty EPDM rubber seals we’ve been selling for years.
How to Remove It (If You Want)
If the residue bothers you, a simple wipe with a damp cloth is usually enough to remove most of it. It’s not necessary for the seal to work properly.
Quick Visual Summary
The light film you see is residual salt from the curing process — completely normal and easy to wipe off if desired.

Bottom Line
The light film is a normal part of how these rubber seals are made. It’s harmless, common, and does not affect quality or performance.
