The garage door bottom brackets attach to the bottom corners of the bottom section. The corner brackets hold the bottom roller in place and the extension spring cable or torsion spring cable is attached to the bracket. It's not uncommon after many years and due to the fact that the bottom brackets are next to the garage floor water & moisture can cause the brackets to rust and eventually break.
